When my daughter was in grade five, she was given an assignment to create a country — complete with a flag, national anthem, currency and a coat of arms. She loved the creativity of this assignment. At the time, she was elephant-obsessed and even saved her money to adopt a baby elephant from Riddle’s Elephant Sanctuary in Arkansas. Below is the land of Pachydermia she created:
Coat of Arms
Pachydermia’s coat of arms has an elephant on the top. In the middle there is a shield with Pachydermia’s flag and a Topia flower in the middle of it. On the bottom of the shield there are Latin words: “NOS NUNQUAM ALIENO.” And “nos mos semper veneratio totus barrus et totus victus creatura.” In English that means: WE NEVER FORGET, we will always respect all elephants and all living creatures. On the very bottom there are the famous Topia trees that grow all over Pachydermia.
Pachydermia’s Money
On the $6 Trunk there is an elephant in the middle and all around the $6 Trunk are the pachyderm flowers. The blue on the top represents the bright sky in Pachydermia. On the back there is one Topia tree and a field of Pachyderm flowers, in Pachyderm Gardens. There is also the Flea River, which is in Wrinkle.
On the 6c en. (coin) there is one Pachyderm flower and the head of an elephant. On the back there are seven Pachyderm flowers. Each flower represents one of the seven provinces in Pachydermia. Also the coin shows the back of the elephant.
National Anthem
Welcome to Pachydermia
Where you never get hypothermia
Where the skies are always blue
And our hearts are always true
Pach-y-derm-ia!
Flag
The flag of Pachydermia has an elephant in the middle and the colours on the flag are dark blue, light blue and purple. Also on the sides are flowers. The elephant represents the name “pachyderm” and all the elephants that live in Pachydermia. The purple represents the famous purple pachyderm flowers that grow all over the country of Pachydermia. And the flowers on the side are pachyderm flowers mentioned before. They are famous for Pachydermia. The light blue represents the beautiful sky in Pachydermia in the morning and afternoon. The dark blue represents the sky in the night. The dark blue looks very pretty in the night sky.
